3 Language Learning Blogs Review

In my last class I was tasked to find 3 language learning blogs and write a short description about each of them. So, I took this opportunity to dive into the realm of internet and searched for top language learning blogs of this time. Of course, we are living in 2018 now, so the quantity of such blogs is vast in size and dynamic in quality. So, you can imagine it was a bit tough to find proper blogs to write about and I indeed found them. Here are the 3 language learning blogs I have found that are frequently suggested everywhere.

Fluent in 3 Months

The first one I found is Fluent In 3 Months, a blog produced by Benny Lewis – a best-selling author and internationally renowned hyper-polyglot. A polyglot (a word I never knew before until I found it through this site) means knowing or using several languages.
This blog is basically a high-value membership site to help language learners. The site requires users to pay but hold on, before you go away you actually need to take a look at what is this blog offering to its users. It has two primary streams to choose from, one is Language Hackinglearning a language through quick methods and the other is Immersionlearning the methods of familiarizing oneself with target language settings and domains. Also, a bonus content Library which allows users to access his best-selling guide book with the same title.  You can have 25 languages to choose from and start your online learning from day one is either of the stream.
This is one of the best blogs I have seen with top-tier premium presentation. The look alone can motivate a person to learn a language. Also, there are audio and video materials and interviews to get inspiration from. Moreover, there are some learning tools such as corrector etc. But would I recommend it to the rural background of Bangladesh? Not really, because one major drawback of this blog is it’s not meant for entry level language learners who wants to use the language for reading and writing.

Tofugu

Being an avid enthusiast about Japan and its culture, I had to search for one blog which can teach Japanese at least to people like us who can’t afford to be in any extensive course at the moment. And, then I found this gem of a site.
Quoting the description, Tofugu started out as a college course project in 2008. It was rooted as a Japanese language blog for English speakers. Over the years Tofugu began to find its niche and evolved into a full-time business.” This site is a japan enthusiasts dream come true as it not only introduces the language itself but also various Japanese cultures from folktale to current generation. The site’s main strength lies in presentation. In each blog posts, there are pictures and illustrations to immerse the learners in an all-around Japanese world. This site also has some parent sites as well where entry level users can learn specific areas of Japanese language. One of such sites powered by Tofugu is https://www.wanikani.com/, it teaches vocabularies and word structures.
But having all the facilities, the cost is money. You can have one month of free trial but after that you will have to pay some amount to continue learning. Given that in these days running a language learning blog is somewhat costly, this site offers acceptable range for any entry level users.
It is difficult to say that for our rural background this site can or would not be of any help? Japanese is a growing language in the world economy and also our country has solid alliance with Japan in terms of jobs and worker recruitment programs. So, a basic learning from this site go a long way But of course it can also be a bit pricey and time consuming for struggling learners.

I Will Teach You a Language

Another language learning blog founded by Olly Richards, a man who knows 8 languages, and with this site he aims to teach others. The learning process in this site is done through various courses. Of course, you can try the trial period to know the site a bit better but to get full access you will have to be a premium membership. The site also gives an option to have a free 3-day course sent via email just by signing up so the user is not completely empty handed here. Like every other blog these days, this site also has articles on various topics regarding or disregarding a specific language. The site has also been approved by Benny Lewis from Fluent in 3 Months.
The strength of this blog is that it’s much simpler to navigate and the goals and procedures are clear. An average user of computer can also easily learn the process of learning here. The reviews also commend on his podcast which has help hundreds of users. He also has an YouTube channel so any user can get a glimpse of his work beforehand. Moreover, once you’re a full member, you can preserve the material and re-use for you or others.
The weakness I found is it doesn’t look properly planned. Sure, the site has a lot of facilities but most won’t be able to know where to start if s/he’s an entry level learner.
So, should I recommend this blog to the rural background? Probably no because I don’t think without proper guidance a beginner can navigate his way to learn a language here. Also, the paywall is a big hindrance as well. But if one can pay the price, s/he is definitely going to get a lot in return.
